PH Refinery: Onanuga, Others Confirm Operational Status After Fact-Finding Mission

A fact-finding delegation led by respected media executive Bayo Onanuga has confirmed that the Port Harcourt Refinery is operational. The visit, which aimed to verify the plant's rehabilitation progress and functionality, reassured stakeholders about the Nigerian National Petroleum Corporation Limited's (NNPCL) commitment to revitalizing the country's refining capacity. Onanuga, along with other members of the delegation, expressed satisfaction with the facility's performance and its potential to meet Nigeria's fuel needs.

During the visit, the delegation was given a comprehensive tour of the refinery's key units, including the crude distillation and blending plants. NNPCL officials explained the operational procedures and highlighted the steps taken to ensure efficiency and safety. According to the officials, the refinery currently produces significant volumes of Premium Motor Spirit (PMS), contributing to the reduction of fuel imports and saving foreign exchange for the country.

The delegation also engaged with technical staff and contractors involved in the refinery's rehabilitation. They acknowledged the challenges faced during the refurbishment, such as equipment sourcing and skilled labor shortages. However, they commended the resilience of the project team and noted the strategic importance of the refinery in achieving Nigeria's energy security goals.

Onanuga and his team emphasized the need for sustained investments in Nigeria's refining infrastructure to ensure long-term operational efficiency. They called on the government and private stakeholders to collaborate on additional refinery projects across the country. Such efforts, they noted, would reduce Nigeria's reliance on imported fuel and strengthen the nation's position in the global energy market.

The fact-finding mission concluded with a pledge to maintain transparency and accountability in reporting the refinery's progress. Stakeholders expressed optimism about the facility's potential to significantly impact Nigeria's economy by enhancing local refining capacity and creating job opportunities for skilled and unskilled workers alike.
