Nigeria’s Cooking Gas (LPG) price forecast on 5th Thursday, 2023

From data obtained from globalpetrolprices.com, the average price of a liter of cooking gas around the world was 0.74 US Dollars on 2nd January, 2023.

The average price of a liter of cooking gas was around 0.64 US Dollars about five days prior to this date.

Similarly in the international Mont Belvieu Propane-Butane Price Review for the last week in December, 2022, a metric ton of butane which was 436.6 US Dollars on December 27th, had risen sharply to 473.8 US Dollars by December 30th.

The increase in the price of cooking gas(LPG) around the world at this period of winter in temperate countries of the world is expected  due to the traditional seasonal rise in demand of the country to meet cooking, heating and other industrial needs.

The implication for the Nigerian market is that the price of LPG will continue to rise, albeit marginally, if and only if at least 75% of the country's LPG requirement is sourced from in-country LPG producing companies like NLNG, KHL Kwale Hydrocarbon, NPSC Oredo, Mobil etc.

If the supply from domestic LPG producers drops to anything below 50% of Nigeria's cooking gas (LPG) needs, the depot and retail prices of the product will spike dramatically.

With the impressive supply tempo from domestic LPG producers led by NLNG, the price of 20 Metric Tons of LPG is expected to range between N11,800,000 – N12,300,000, for at least the next two weeks, while the retail price of 12.5kg of gas is predicted to hover between N9,000 – N10,500, depending on the proximity of LPG depots to the location of the LPG refilling plant or retail outlet.
