NLNG Seeks Increased Synergy with NPA for Exports

The Nigeria Liquefied Natural Gas (NLNG) Limited has called for enhanced collaboration with the Nigerian Ports Authority (NPA) to streamline export operations and boost the nation's non-oil revenue. This appeal was made by NLNG Managing Director, Dr. Philip Mshelbila, during a stakeholders' meeting held in Lagos.

Dr. Mshelbila emphasized the importance of a seamless operational relationship between NLNG and the NPA to address logistical challenges that could hinder the export of liquefied natural gas (LNG). He highlighted that the export of LNG remains a critical component of Nigeria's economic diversification efforts, with significant potential to generate foreign exchange and support economic growth.

The meeting explored strategies to improve port infrastructure, reduce vessel turnaround time, and enhance the efficiency of customs and security operations. Dr. Mshelbila noted that delays at the ports not only increase operational costs but also diminish Nigeria's competitiveness in the global LNG market. "We must work together to eliminate bottlenecks and create an environment that supports the timely delivery of LNG cargoes to international markets," he stated.

In response, the Managing Director of the NPA, Mohammed Bello-Koko, assured stakeholders of the agency's commitment to addressing the concerns raised. He reiterated the NPA's focus on modernizing port facilities and adopting technology to improve operational efficiency. Bello-Koko also expressed optimism about the positive impact of such synergies on Nigeria's export capabilities.

Industry analysts have applauded the initiative, stressing that stronger partnerships between key stakeholders like NLNG and NPA are essential for unlocking the full potential of Nigeria's LNG sector. They argue that such collaborations could help mitigate the impact of global energy market volatility and position Nigeria as a reliable LNG supplier.

The NLNG currently operates six liquefaction trains with a total capacity of 22 million tons per annum. Plans are underway to expand this capacity with the ongoing construction of Train 7, which is expected to increase output by an additional 8 million tons annually.
