PETROAN Urges Rivers Govt to Resolve Oil Sector Dispute

The Petroleum Products Retail Outlets Owners Association of Nigeria (PETROAN) has called on the Rivers State Government to address the ongoing dispute within the oil sector. This appeal follows recent disruptions in fuel supply and distribution caused by disagreements between stakeholders and the state government.

PETROAN President, Dr. Billy Gillis-Harry, expressed concern over the negative impact of the conflict on the economy and the livelihood of residents. He emphasized the need for a collaborative approach to resolve the issues, ensuring that the supply chain remains uninterrupted. According to him, "It is crucial that all parties prioritize the welfare of the people and the stability of the oil sector, which is the backbone of our economy."

The association highlighted key areas of contention, including regulatory compliance, tax disputes, and the operational environment for oil marketers. Dr. Gillis-Harry urged the government to engage stakeholders in meaningful dialogue to find a lasting solution.

In addition, PETROAN reiterated its commitment to supporting government initiatives aimed at improving the oil and gas sector. The group called for a balanced approach that ensures fairness while fostering an enabling environment for businesses to thrive.

Stakeholders have also urged the state government to expedite the resolution process to prevent further disruptions, which could lead to fuel scarcity and increased economic hardship for residents. The resolution of this dispute, they argue, is essential for maintaining the state's economic stability and ensuring the smooth operation of the oil sector.
