NNPC Retail Launches Six New CNG Refueling Units in Lagos

The Nigerian National Petroleum Company (NNPC) Retail has expanded its footprint in the energy sector by commissioning six new Compressed Natural Gas (CNG) refueling units in Lagos. This initiative is part of NNPC's broader strategy to promote cleaner and more affordable energy alternatives for Nigerians.

The launch event, held at one of the new facilities, was attended by key stakeholders in the energy sector. NNPC Retail Managing Director, Mrs. Elizabeth Ajayi, stated, "These refueling units mark a significant milestone in our commitment to providing cost-effective and environmentally friendly fuel options. Lagos, being a major hub, is pivotal to our rollout strategy."

The newly established CNG units are designed to cater to both private and commercial vehicles, offering an alternative to petrol at a competitive price. With the cost of petrol skyrocketing, CNG provides a viable solution, priced at ₦200 per liter equivalent. This pricing aligns with the federal government's push to make cleaner energy sources more accessible to the public.

NNPC has also introduced incentives for vehicle owners to convert their engines to CNG-compatible systems. The government is providing subsidies to reduce the cost of conversion, making the transition more affordable for Nigerians.

The CNG refueling units are strategically located across Lagos to ensure ease of access and convenience for users. Plans are underway to replicate this initiative in other parts of the country, with a target of nationwide coverage within the next few years.

This development has been lauded as a step in the right direction, as it not only offers economic relief but also contributes to reducing carbon emissions, aligning with global sustainability goals.
