IPMAN Seeks Government Support to Expand CNG Stations

The Independent Petroleum Marketers Association of Nigeria (IPMAN) has called on the federal government to provide support for the establishment and expansion of Compressed Natural Gas (CNG) stations across the country. This appeal comes as the nation intensifies efforts to transition from traditional fuels to cleaner and more sustainable energy sources.

IPMAN President, Chinedu Okoronkwo, emphasized the strategic importance of CNG as a cost-effective and environmentally friendly alternative to petrol and diesel. He highlighted that expanding CNG infrastructure would not only reduce the financial burden on Nigerians but also contribute significantly to the reduction of greenhouse gas emissions.

"The deployment of CNG stations is a critical step toward achieving energy sustainability and reducing the dependency on imported fuel," Okoronkwo stated. He further urged the government to provide incentives, including duty waivers and grants, to encourage private sector investment in the sector.

Stakeholders have identified challenges such as high conversion costs for vehicles, inadequate infrastructure, and public skepticism as barriers to the adoption of CNG. However, they believe that with the right policies and support, these hurdles can be effectively addressed.

The federal government has recently introduced several initiatives aimed at promoting the use of CNG, including subsidies for vehicle conversions and investments in refilling stations. IPMAN's call for support aligns with these efforts, highlighting the need for a collaborative approach between the public and private sectors.

As Nigeria continues its journey toward energy transition, the expansion of CNG infrastructure is seen as a crucial component of achieving a more sustainable and economically viable energy landscape.
