Oil Marketers to Begin Petrol Lifting from Warri Refinery in February

The Warri Refinery, a key facility in Nigeria's downstream petroleum sector, is set to resume petrol distribution as oil marketers prepare to lift products starting in February 2025. This development comes after extensive rehabilitation efforts aimed at restoring the refinery's operational capacity.

The Nigerian National Petroleum Company Limited (NNPCL) announced that the refinery, which has undergone significant upgrades, is now ready to supply premium motor spirit (PMS) to oil marketers. This move is expected to reduce the country's reliance on imported fuel and stabilize petrol prices in the domestic market.

Stakeholders in the oil and gas sector have expressed optimism about the refinery's reopening, citing its potential to improve fuel availability and ease distribution bottlenecks. The Warri Refinery's operations will also create jobs and boost economic activities in the Niger Delta region.

However, industry analysts have highlighted the importance of maintaining the refinery's facilities and ensuring consistent operations to avoid disruptions. The successful lifting of petrol in February will serve as a critical test of the refinery's readiness and the government's commitment to revitalizing Nigeria's refining capacity.

This milestone aligns with the federal government's broader strategy to achieve energy self-sufficiency and reduce foreign exchange expenditure on fuel imports. The Warri Refinery's revival is expected to complement similar efforts at other refineries across the country.
