NNPC Launches Six CNG Filling Stations, Offers Fuel at ₦200/Liter

The Nigerian National Petroleum Company Limited (NNPC) has launched six Compressed Natural Gas (CNG) filling stations across various locations in Nigeria. This initiative is part of the federal government's efforts to provide affordable fuel alternatives to Nigerians amidst the rising cost of petrol.

The newly commissioned CNG stations are strategically located in key urban centers to ensure accessibility for both private and commercial vehicle owners. NNPC announced that the CNG will be sold at a subsidized rate of ₦200 per liter equivalent, significantly lower than the current petrol prices. This move aligns with the government's drive to promote the use of cleaner and cheaper energy sources.

During the launch, NNPC Group CEO, Mele Kyari, highlighted the benefits of CNG, stating, "CNG is not only cost-effective but also environmentally friendly. This initiative demonstrates our commitment to reducing the energy cost burden on Nigerians while contributing to global efforts to combat climate change."

The locations of the six filling stations include Lagos, Abuja, Port Harcourt, Kano, Kaduna, and Enugu. Plans are also underway to expand the network to other states to ensure nationwide coverage. Vehicle owners are encouraged to convert their engines to accommodate CNG, with government subsidies available to ease the conversion process.

This development has been met with widespread approval, with many Nigerians expressing optimism about the potential economic relief it offers. However, experts have emphasized the need for sustained investment in CNG infrastructure and public awareness campaigns to maximize adoption.

As the CNG initiative gains traction, it is expected to reduce Nigeria's dependence on petrol, cut down fuel costs, and contribute to a cleaner environment.
